CULTURAL CREED

CULTURAL CREED

Cultural Creed

In my series, I explore the complexities of culture and its congestion of ideologies. Being raised in society means having beliefs instilled in us from a young age, carrying them forward in rituals centred on these beliefs, generation after generation.

As we age and explore life on our own, these beliefs can be thrown into doubt and questioned. Some traditions are not needed or feel oppressive, while others are a comfort. But confronting the family and society puts you at risk of ostracisation. And so you are forced to choose, to quietly accept practices you don’t agree with or to take a stand against them and create change. Sometimes that change happens internally, being entrapped in the abundance of culture and you have to figure out your path within it.
